Lernort Natur
Projects on the Tempelhofer Feld
This project offers nature experience programmes for children and their parents as well as day-care centres and schools.
Children, parents and the educational institutions are given opportunities to get to the bottom of natural phenomena, to experiment with natural materials and to create. This awakens the children's curiosity to explore the environment. Through their own experiences and the development of new questions, patterns of thinking and interpretation, both the understanding of natural phenomena and the development of language skills are promoted. The children's questions are the starting point for the exploration processes.
Particularly for children who grow up in a very dense and stimulation-poor environment, this offers spaces of experience that effectively support a successful educational process.
The focus of the nature learning centre is the outdoor area (approx. 1,000 sqm), where different stations (water, air, earth) encourage children to explore nature and natural materials. The arrangement of the stations allows for flexible and thematically open use. The rooms have the character of an "intentional building site", an active collection of learning occasions and traces (natural and recycled materials such as sawdust, wooden discs, chalk, containers with dried flowers, paper, glue, spoons, etc.).
