Stadtacker

Projects on the Tempelhofer Feld

Since 2011, Stadtacker, an urban garden-art project by Albatros gGmbH, has been located as one of the first projects on Tempelhofer Feld.

On an area of 1000 square meters, a public community and show garden has been created, which offers many plants, art objects and people a space to develop. From year to year, in about nine months, formerly unemployed employees from artistic, horticultural and craft areas develop this art and show garden. The different employees give the Stadtacker a different focus and inspiration.

In raised beds, useful and ornamental plants are presented under the motto "diversity instead of monoculture". In this way, the Stadtacker offers the public a sensory experience of urban agriculture. The art objects integrated on the Stadtacker thematize natural processes and their significance for humans. In this way, they draw attention to the special steppe of the Tempelhofer Feld with its high solar radiation and the constantly blowing wind.

The combination of the urban environment with a horticulturally and artistically designed garden on the huge open space of the former airport attracts Berliners as well as national and international visitors. They like to linger on the Stadtacker, get information from the staff and from information signs, and exchange ideas. Again and again, artistic and cultural events take place on the Stadtacker with its open structure and small stage, such as the Acker Rallye, small concerts, bed-building or scarecrow workshops for children and adults.

In this way, in addition to the cooperation with the job centers, networking also takes place with schools, residents, other projects, especially with the neighboring project nuture art Minigolf and other garden projects.
