West Field Garden

Projects on the Tempelhofer Feld

The Westfeld Garten (WFG) is to be built on a 5811m² area on the Tempelhofer Feld in the area of the entrance to Paradestrasse.

The WFG is a community garden of a special kind: an edible, self-sustaining biotope, a so-called "forest garden". The garden is more like a forest edge, where there are not mainly trees, but a great biodiversity.

Behind the Westfeld Garden project is the Feld Food Forest association. Founded in 2022, it cooperates with, among others, the Open Soil Atlas initiative and many other organizations on the Tempelhofer Feld.

A variety of different plants - trees, shrubs, perennials, herbs, ground cover,...- are planted to create a designed natural landscape. Nature and the relationships between plants are mimicked. The goal is to create biodiversity, regenerate the soil and produce a yield for humans, animals and the soil. The Westfeld Garden (WFG) aims to be an experimental field where diverse formats of knowledge exchange about permaculture, environment and nutrition can take place. At the same time, it is intended to be a place where citizens can become actors in the urban society.
